Call the Midwife (2012)

BBC: Adapted by Heidi Thomas from Jennifer Worth's best selling memoir, Call The Midwife is a moving, funny, colourful look at midwifery and family in 1950's East End London. It follows a new young midwife, Jenny, who joins an eccentric, loveable community of nursing nuns. We follow their friendships and the extraordinary true stories they encounter, as they are drawn into the lives and homes of the women and families they treat.

(Raine, Ferris, Parfitt, Hart, Agutter)

Cast includes: Jessica Raine who plays Jenny, Pam Ferris (Cranford) Judy Parfitt (Bleak House), Miranda Hart (Miranda), Jenny Agutter (The Railway Children), and Helen George.

From Best British TV.com: "The drama is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth who had been helping Heidi Thomas with the script until she passed away earlier this month. Set in the East End of London during the 1950s, the story is centered around a young woman called Jenny who is being played by up and coming actress Jessica Raine. Jenny lives in a home for nuns and nurses who work as midwives in post-World War II London. The cast is roughly split between veteran stars who play the senior nuns and TV newcomers who play the younger members of the convent. BBC One Controller Ben Stephenson says the show will be a fitting tribute to Jennifer Worth whose three books on the topic became best sellers."
