Collins has bought the rights to a companion book to ITV1's "Downton Abbey", for publication this autumn.
Publisher Hannah MacDonald and senior editor Louise Stanley bought world rights in all languages from Gareth Neame, m.d. of "Downton Abbey" production company Carnival Films and Annabel Merullo at PFD.
The book, The World of Downton Abbey, will be published in hardback in September. It will include profiles of all the major characters, as well as behind the scenes interviews, and insight into the political and social history of the period.
MacDonald said: "'Downton Abbey' was the television event of 2010. It was also a beautifully written, delicately layered, historically attentive and sumptuously styled production. Perfect therefore for an illustrated book."
Neame said that the book will "extend the Downton experience for lovers of the show and provide a whole layer of extra detail that there could never be room for in the TV series".
