Kristen Stewart, speaking of playing Snow White, said: "I'm most excited about the obvious thing... this girl has this amazing ability to channel fear into this really focused, charged, driving energy. She's also the people's lead and doesn't let her heart cloud her mind."

"A voice-over emphasizes that the theme of the movie is about being confronted with death. Slightly disturbing fantasy images include a white fairy being born out of the body of a crow, giant wooden demons emerging from trees, knights hitting each other with swords and shattering into black stone, the crowned queen bathing in milk, castles on the edges of cliffs, and Snow White petting a giant wolf. This isn't actual movie footage, and features unknown actors, but gives a sense of the look of the film."

First look at Lily Collins as Snow White

In Tarsem Singh's upcoming film, Lily Collins (from The Blind Side) describes her character of Snow White as “a joyful person who lights up a room and maintains grace at all times.” With a father played by the recently cast Sean Bean, she’s fine as long as the King is around, but… we all know how that turns out. “She’s a naive innocent young girl who turns into a woman and really finds herself,” Collins says.

Collins says this will not be a passive princess, but it’s not a cynical take on the folktale icon either: “She’s very much that fairy tale princess we’ve all read about in books. She’s been modernized in a way that she becomes a fighter in the end.”

Armie Hammer plays the prince, who finds himself stuck in a love triangle between Snow and her wicked stepmother, because he can shift the balance of power in their mythical realm. “They’re competing for the prince in separate ways,” says Collins, who is currently shooting in Montreal. “The Queen wants to use him to better herself. I’m seeking his help to gain back my kingdom from the Queen. She has her intentions from the start. I go from seeking his help to falling in love, though obviously there’s something of a spark from the beginning.”

Sean Bean to marry Julia Roberts?

Yes, if director Tarsem Singh has anything to say about it! Bean is in final negotiations to play the King, father to Lily Collins' Snow White and husband to evil stepmother Julia Roberts.

The film is currently in production in Montreal, Quebec.

Snow White & the Huntsman - a trilogy?

Producer Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) plans on making Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kirsten Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth into a trilogy. “It’s meant to be the first in a series of films,” he said. “This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters.”

“We retain the basic story in the same way we retain the basic story of Alice, a young girl meant to be the queen who is cast out,” Roth says. “The Huntsman is a mercenary, in the sense that he’s a guy who is very able in the woods, more able than most anyone. His job is to capture runaway girls, who are all fleeing the kingdom because of the queen. He’s a nondescript bounty hunter, as we first meet him.”

But he’s no killer, Roth stresses. Snow White’s bounty is the first time he has been directed to return with only a part of the missing girl — her heart. When he finds he doesn’t have it within his to cut hers out, the two become unlikely allies — at first fleeing the Queen’s forces, and then mounting a counterattack on her kingdom.

“He’s not a nice guy, but not only that he’s someone who has lost hope and lost faith. He has lost his wife, given up on everything,” the producer says.

This take on the character of Snow White is also different from the sweetly-singing princess we’ve seen before. “She starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen, she escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods,” according to Roth.

If the previous work of first-time feature director Rupert Sanders is any indication, expect major battle sequences...

As for casting Stewart in the role: “Frankly, what we did, we searched high and low for an unknown. Which was my want after Alice,” he says. “As we went through it, it just became evident to me that Kristen occupies a space in the universe where she’s a terrific actress only known for one part. I hope this is a movie that will appeal to those who find Twilight appealing, but also [Stewart] is someone who has some piss and vinegar in her.”

If the “fairest of them all” is described that way, imagine how the Evil Queen will be. "She’ll be larger than life,” Roth chuckles. “Evil without any burden of guilt.”

Snow White and the Huntsman - casting news

We heard earlier about Ian McShane being cast as the leader of the dwarves and today there's news of other actors in negotiations for Snow White and the Huntsman include Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Steven Graham and Eddie Marsan & Ray Winstone who will play twins.

This is the other Snow White film with Kirsten Stewart (Snow White), Chris Hemsworth (The Huntsman), Charlize Theron (Evil Stepmother) and Sam Claflin (Prince Charmant).

THR: "The dwarf names are veering mightily away from the well-known Disney version, with McShane as Caesar, Jones as a timid dwarf named Claudius and Izzard will be Tiberius, described as the biggest and burliest of the crew. Hoskins will play Constantine, a blind dwarf."

Silly really but just reading this article at Comingsoon.net, increased my anticipation over the upcoming Snow White, directed by Tarsem Singh. (Keep in mind, there are 3 films in the works, 4 projects if you include the tv series with Snow White as one of the lead characters)

I''ve been most keen to see what film Tarsem will create for the iconic fairy tale princess after being so entranced with The Fall.

"Though no photos were allowed, we are pleased to report that fans of Singh's distinctive visuals will not be disappointed. While many of the classic Snow White elements show through in the film's design -- particularly in the look of the forest -- the artwork seems to draw from a wide range of inspiration, including a very Indian-looking palace and several masquerade designs reminiscent of Mardi Gras and old storybook illustrations. Multiple costume parties are said to play a role in the film and promise to be extremely bright and colorful. Against them, the Prince (Armie Hammer) is seen in a coat and tales costume with (for the party) rabbit ears emerging from his top hat. Snow White herself (Lily Collins) is the biggest departure from the original story and will be portrayed as a bit of a fighter, allowing for multiple action sequences. Exiled from her kingdom, she's actively trying to win back her rightful throne and combines a blue dress with black, leather armor. Each of the film's seven dwarfs features a distinctive look and seems to be nicknamed by their costume. "Cowboy" wears a cowboy hat, "Wolf" is draped in animal skin and another wears a crooked top hat. The Evil Queen (Julia Roberts) takes the cake for costume changes. Her character had pages and pages of different elaborate dresses in various colors and shapes, including an impressive ice-inspired design."

Lily Collins cast as Snow White

Julia Roberts has already been attached to Tarsem Singh's film as the evil stepmother and now we have news that Lily Collins (daughter of singer Phil Collins) has landed the lead role of Snow White. Lily was seen previously as Sandra Bullock's daughter in Blind Side. Armie Hammer, who played dual roles of Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, has been cast as Prince Andrew Alcott.

A fairytale themed series is in development for ABC from two of the writers of Lost -Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.

What is Once Upon a Time about?
Kitsis: What we want to do is take a look at well-known characters and stories and kind of dig deeper than what you know, and say, "Here's what you didn't know." We want to try to bring [the characters] out as people instead of just metaphors to deal with our fears
Horowitz: For us, first and foremost, this is a character show. We want to take the iconography that we've always loved and find find a new way to look at what makes these fairy-tale characters tick.

Snow and the Seven (2013)

Back in October, there was talk of various film projects for Snow White and it seems that all 3 (that we know of!) are being updated this week. Which one(s) will make it to the screen?

"Oscar-winning "Little Miss Sunshine" scribe Michael Arndt is in negotiations to work on the script for Disney's "Snow and the Seven," one of three rival Snow White projects in the works.

Additionally production designer John Myhre, an Oscar winner for his work on "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Chicago," has been brought on board to begin creating the worlds of the fairy tale, which is set in 19th century China.

Yes, China.

The project, which Disney has been developing since 2002, centres on a 19th century Englishwoman who returns to her Hong Kong home for her father's funeral, only to discover that her stepmother is plotting against her. She escapes to mainland China, finding solace among a rogue band of seven international warriors.

Francis Lawrence has been on board to direct since early on, even as a slew of writers has taken turns at the script. Arndt last week picked up an Oscar nomination for co-writing "Toy Story 3."

With all systems go for "Snow," the big question is Natalie Portman's involvement. She has been circling the project since last year, but her pregnancy could hinder her ability to undertake a physically intense movie that will feature several different fighting styles."
